TSA Rules
The Momentum Teavigo National
Duathlon Series events are run by Teavigo
and in accordance with the rules set
out below.
1. AMBUSH MARKETING
1.1 It is our
aim to have a "clean" finish
area (that will be the area from the finish line and
75m after the finish line) and only designated officials
will be allowed in the finish area. No team managers
will be allowed in the finish area.
1.2 No ambush marketing will be tolerated at the event
and no non-sponsor of the event will be allowed any branding
within the parameters of the event.
2. TSA REGISTERED ATHLETES:
2.1 To qualify an athlete must:
2.1.1 pre-enter online for the event, or enter on the
day;
2.1.2.present his/her 2007/8 TSA registration card at
the TSA registration table at the event to register;
2.1.3 present the TSA time chip to gain access to the
TSA transition area
2.2 The time chip must be returned to the designated
official in the transition area upon exit of the transition
after
the event.
2.3 On the day of the event, no TSA registration facilities
will be available.
2.4 Without a TSA registration card enabling the athlete
to a time chip, an athlete will not be allowed access
to the TSA transition areas.
3. COMPULSORY RACE NUMBERS
All participants must clearly be body marked as marked
by race organisers.
4. BICYCLES AND TRANSITION
4.1. NO HELMET, NO RIDE. Helmets must
be produced for inspection at bike check in. Only approved
hard shell helmets will be permitted.
4.2. THIS IS A DRAFT LEGAL RACE. All bar ends must be
properly plugged.
4.3. HANDLEBARS. Only traditional drop handlebars are
permitted. Clip-on's will be permitted provided they
do not extend more that 15cm beyond the front wheel axle,
and they are not longer than the brake levers' foremost
line. Straight forward clip on's must be bridged and
must not carry forward facing brake levers. No forward
facing bar or gear shifters are allowed on the end of
the clip-ons.
4.4.ILLEGAL EQUIPMENT. Glass containers, headphones and
headsets are not permitted.
4.5 Only wheels of spoke construction will be permitted.
NO DISC WHEELS OR WHEEL COVERS WILL BE PERMITTED.
4.6. Helmets must be clipped on tightly and correctly
before taking bike from bike rack. The helmet must be
worn during the full duration of the cycle leg and only
be clipped off after racking the bike. DO NOT un-clip
or remove your helmet on re-entry into the transition
area before your bike is racked. You will be stopped
to re-clip your helmet. Make sure your helmet is securely
fitted. As a self-test, push your helmet from the front
over your head. If it moves beyond your forehead then
the helmet straps must be tightened accordingly. You
will be stopped, if in the referee's opinion your helmet
is not secure enough. ( a time penalty will be applicable
once the helmet is re-secured)
4.7. No cycling is permitted in the transition area.
Only competitors will be allowed in transition area.
Bike may only be removed from transition after announcement
is made when all cyclists finished the cycle leg.
5. CYCLE
5.1 An UPPER BODY GARMENT MUST
BE WORN during the cycle leg of the event. No nudity
is permitted. (One-piece
suits must be zipped and both "straps" of the
top or vest must remain on the shoulders)
5.2 Traffic rules must be obeyed. DO NOT ride over the
centre line (solid or staggered) unless otherwise instructed
at each venue by the Chief Referee. Keep left and pass
right. Obstructing, blocking and physical contact is
not permitted. Failure to obey this rule will result
in the participant being disqualified.
6. RUN
An UPPER BODY GARMENT MUST BE
WORN during the run leg of the event. No nudity is permitted
(One piece suits
must be zipped and both "straps" of the top
or vest must remain on the shoulders). Footwear is compulsory.
7. TIMING, RESULTS & POINTS
7.1 All participants will need to either purchase or
hire a Spectrum Sport Timing Chip for these events.
7.2 The chip can be purchased at registration for a once
off fee of R80.00 or hired at a cost of R30 with a R50
deposit.
7.3 Only athletes competing with a Spectrum Sport Timing
Chip will qualify for results.
7.4 The chip must be around the ankle.
7.5 Results will be posted at events on www.duathlon.co.za
and www.spectrumsport.co.za after each event.
7.6 Points will be allocated to the top 10 finishers
in all individual categories. The three best events will
count plus the final. If two or more athletes finish
the series with the same amount of points, the athlete
with the best placing in the final will be the winner.
08. GENERAL
8.1. A COMPULSORY pre-race briefing will
be conducted 15 minutes prior to the start of the event
where any additional instructions will be given. Regular
instructions will also be announced over the public address
system.
8.2. Please note that it is the participant's responsibility
to know the route. Please ensure that you have checked
the route maps.
8.3. This is an individual event and no seconding or
assistance may be rendered to any athlete during the
event. This includes the handing of kit, water bottles,
puncture repairs etc. No unauthorised vehicles permitted
on the course.
8.4. These rules are made to protect the participants
and to prevent unsportsmanlike behaviour. It is in your
and your fellow participant's best interest to race in
a safe and fair manner. The referees are there to ensure
the safety of participants and to ensure that unsportsmanlike
behaviour is addressed with the appropriate penalties.
8.5 Swearing and foul langauge by an athlete towards
a race referee, marshall or official will lead to automatic
disqualiication of the athlete.
8. 6 . Should any rules be unclear you are welcome to
consult with the Chief Referee on the day prior to the
start of the event.
09. REGISTRATION AND ENTRY FEES
9.1 Online entries close on Wednesday 12h00 prior to
each event.
9.2 No refunds for no shows or if race is changed
or cancelled due to safety reasons.
9.3 Athletes can also register at the venue on the day.
9.4 To qualify for the TSA discount on entry fees, athletes
must register prior through their province and be in
possession of an official TSA registration card.
9.5 Late entries will be accepted on race morning
at an additional charge.
9.6 Registration of all participants must be completed
by 09h00, therefore ensure your early arrival at the
event.

10. DISCLAIMER
Neither Teavigo or Momentum Health nor its successors,
assigns, subsidiaries, associates, affiliates, officers,
directors,
employees,
agents and contractors or TSA will be held liable for
any damage, loss, claim, judgement, or other liability
or expense (including, but without limitation, reasonable
attorneys fees), of whatever kind or nature, whether
for death, personal injury, property damage or otherwise,
that may be sustained as a direct or indirect result
of participating in any of the Momentum Teavigo National
Duathlon Series events.
TSA triathlon competition rules
will apply.
All other rules are at the discretion of Teavigo and
Momentum Health.
